Have you ever heard of a tiger nut? If the answer is no, you’re not the only one…and here’s a surprise for you, these magical little nuggets of goodness are NOT actually nuts. They’re small root vegetables that are grown and harvested in the same way as a potato, and are packed full of superfood qualities. We decided to take on the challenge of incorporating these wrinkly little tubers into our June 2018 Smoothie of the Month and found an amazing company to collaborate with – The Tiger Nut Company!
In case you missed what Smoothie of the Month is about – every month, we partner with a brand that we think is ‘honestly good’ and create a limited edition flavour with their ingredient. Our #SOTM is then available for one month only to our smoothie box subscribers.
Ani (co-founder of The Tiger Nut Company) has been a tiger nut fan since her childhood. She grew up drinking tiger nut milk (known as Horchata) in Barcelona, and Chris (co-founder), tried it and fell in love with it too! The rest is history. They got their research hats on, found out how good tiger nuts are for your health, and there was no stopping them!
We absolutely love their dedication and passion for promoting this unusual little superfood to the masses – and we want to help spread the word too! Their company ethos is 100% after our own heart – Ani and Chris are strong believers that you don’t need to sacrifice on taste to eat healthily, and even if you have health issues that restrict what you can eat, this can be an amazing opportunity to get creative, and try new and delicious foods. Love that positivity!
Like us, they’re very passionate about sustainability, quality, and traceability. They will never buy tiger nuts on the open market, and instead, source their tiger nuts from hand-picked eco-agricultural farmers. Their tiger nuts are nut-free and gluten-free, as well as organic and fair trade. They take three to five months to dry, and are turned by hand daily.
We love The Tiger Nut Company’s dedication to health and sustainabilit, and we’re really excited working with them this month.
