At Honestly Good, we’re all about shopping with a conscience and we champion independent brands who are waving the flag for sustainable living. If you’re looking to partake in a bit of retail therapy, because frankly, it’s been a tough year and you deserve it, then here’s our sustainable shopping guide to help make your home a more eco-friendly place.
You know that annoying scenario where plastic pegs crumble or snap? Well, meet Pincinox. These really are the pegs with a difference (yes, we know how underwhelming that might sound – but trust us, once you know, you know). This innovative company has come up with unbreakable stainless steel clothes pegs that have a LIFETIME warranty. Yes – it’s not often you see that. They’re rust-proof, heat-resistant and frost-resistant too, and they can even stay on your clothesline all year round (because let’s face it, who can be bothered to bring their pegs in?!) They’ve also got planet-friendly packaging – tick.
Looking for a sustainable toothpaste option? Well, let us introduce ‘Happier’. This eco-conscious company are 100% transparent about ALL of the ingredients that go into their toothpaste, and they use aluminium packaging, as it can be recycled. Their website actually alerted us to something shocking – every year, 1.5 billion single-use plastic toothpaste tubes get thrown away. So if you’re looking for a cruelty-free, sustainable and vegan toothpaste – this could be the one for you. Something we love is that it also has that SUPER FRESH mouth-tingling mintiness that some sustainable toothpaste brands don’t quite achieve. Also – if you love neat little gadgets – check out their ‘Squeeze Key’ – a handy tool to get out every last drop of your toothpaste. Love it!
Not only do we love the natural look of this water bottle, but more importantly – we also love the fact that it’s made from sustainably sourced organic bamboo combined with stainless steel. This bottle is more than just a pretty exterior though – it keeps drinks ice cold for up to four hours. Errrr….smoothie on the go anyone?!
Also – if you wanted to use it for hot drinks, it’ll keep them hot for 2 hours (although we recommend this coffee cup for that) and as an added bonus, 10% of their profits go to The Marine Conservation Society – a charity that protects marine habitats.
Ok technically not for ‘the home’ – but our phones are ALWAYS with us, so we thought, why not? If you need a new phone case, how about a biodegradable phone case that’s made from wheat straw? These eco-friendly cases with a conscience by Wavecase are made to fit a range of phone models from iPhones to Samsung Galaxies and they even make cactus leather credit card holders and cases for AirPods too. The company was founded by three friends who grew up in a seaside town in the North East of England. After seeing first-hand the devastating effects of plastic pollution, then decided to do something about it. Hats off to you! Keep on making waves!
Say bye to clingfilm and say hello to handmade reusable waxed food wraps. There are a lot of beeswax wrap companies on the market now, but what we like about Natural Wrap is that they also offer vegan-friendly rice bran wax. These wraps come in all sorts of different colours and styles, and they even have the option to customise your own wrap too so you can add custom images or text – genius!
Simplicity, style and sustainability combined – the Elephant Box is your lunchbox for life. It’s made of 100% food-grade sustainable stainless steel and it can be stored in the fridge or freezer and is even dishwasher safe. We particularly love it for picnics. Another perk is that it doesn’t stain or carry odours, and as it’s plastic-free, it isn’t made with any toxins or nasty chemicals.
This product is such a clever little gizmo. You know that scenario when you want to get burned-on food residue off your kitchenware, but you don’t want to scratch it with a scouring pad? Enter: Bambu. These little bamboo scrapers are cleverly designed with curved corners that each have a slightly different shape, so you can use them with different pots and pans. Best of all, they’re made of eco-friendly bamboo. Count us in!
We hope you enjoyed this roundup of cool eco-friendly products for your home. If there are any you recommend, please leave us a comment and let us know.
